Levels on the Connecticut are in a great range for park & play at Sumners Falls. There are a few really good play options. For novices there is a small set of rapids that can be run over and over and many places to work on peal outs and eddy turns.
We rely on Wilder Dam to release water in time for it to reach Sumners Falls by 3pm. So we will meet at 3pm. Please let me know if you are coming in case Wilder does not release on Tuesday, so I can get in touch before you drive down there.
This is a popular spot so there will be other kayakers. Plenty of parking as it is also a fishing access. We put in and take out in the same location - so no shuttle!
Directions from the north:
Take 89 south.
Get off in White River Junction at the I-91 exit
Go as if you are headed on I-91 North
Take the IMMEDIATE first exit (you actually will never get on I-91 - it will make sense when you see it)
This is exit 11 - US 5
Take a left on Route 5 South
Follow route 5 south for approximately 6.5 miles
The entrance to Sumners Falls is a non-marked dirt road on the left just past a set of guard rails on the left
If you drive over the highway (I91) at about the 7 mile mark you've gone too far!
These directions are not purposefully vague. It is about as hard to find as the Middle Channel on the Ottawa River!
But you will be glad when you do find it!
We will be there from 3pm until... Since it is park and play, you can leave any time you like. Also if you come in late you will see us out there - just jump in and join us.
Confused? Questions? Give me a shout.
