Saturday evening:  March 6, 2010

The 2010 pool sessions are underway; the sixth session is on Saturday, March 20th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM! Please take advantage of this pre-registration page, so that we have a reasonable head count for each of the upcoming sessions. Note that all sessions start at 6:00 PM, and the signup form for the longer (2-hour) sessions includes check boxes for indicating your interest in rolling lessons and a loaner boat. THANKS!

[By the way, YouTube has some excellent instructional kayak rolling videos by Chris Spelius of Expediciones Chile. Also see this outstanding video on Vimeo, from H2ODreams.com.]

The pool session fee is $10, plus an additional $5 insurance fee if you are not a member of the American Canoe Association (ACA). If you plan on attending all the sessions, you can pay a one-time series fee of $40. Note that you must still pay the $5 insurance fee per session if you don't belong to the ACA.

You can also join the VPC (or renew) for $10 ($12 for a family). If you haven't previously been a member of the ACA you can become a member at the session; they offer a 6-month introductory membership for $15.

An ACA waiver form must be completed during or prior to your first pool session. It will help get the session underway quicker if you print and fill out the waiver prior to your arrival, and bring it with you. (You can also mail it to Rich Larsen, VPC Treasurer, 11 Discovery Road, Essex Junction, VT 05452.)

Note on Parking: The pool sessions are held in the pool within UVM's athletic complex. Access is from a lot just uphill from the parking garage on Spear Street (in the 'U' of the complex). UVM is a Division 1 hockey school, and there are home games on pool session nights (Saturday nights) in February and early March. The games start at 7 PM, and our sessions start at 6 PM, so you will have access to the loading dock near the pool entrance. However, the parking attendants will ask you to park on the top level of the parking garage after you unload your boats and gear. It is important to not be late on these evenings, because UVM hockey fans start arriving in force not long after 6 PM. Our sessions end well before the games do, so departure won't be difficult.

Any boat you use in the UVM pool must be thoroughly cleaned beforehand!!

Dirt, twigs, or leaves found in or around the pool may result in us being banned from future use of the facility.

[A faucet with a hose and a large plastic tub are available for final rinses. That said, we ask that you please do as much cleaning as possible before you come to your first session.]
