I just added a beginners trip to the Deerfield Fife Brook section for Sunday, August 29. Since we didn't have a clinic this year, I thought this might be a good way for those folks just getting into paddling and those who enjoy class II water to meet some others in the same boat. Also, if any advanced boaters want to safety boat, that would be great.

Do you get a thrill from passing on your knowledge of kayaking?

Are you interested in teaching a beginner in the Addison county area?

I live in Middlebury and am interested in day-trip kayaking, preferably with women (as I am female) but will accept men who are smaller than I am.

Sense of Humor preferred.

I work in the Chace Mill, and would like to get out on the Chace Mill rapids (in the Horseshoe) at lunchtime (12-2 pm). However, I don't want to be paddling the rapids alone. Is there somebody out there whose schedule permits a paddling break at that time during the week?

FYI......................

On October 1st of 1998, as we look onto the 500th anniversary of the
discovery of the New World, Luke Shullenberger and Jean-Philippe Soule
set off on a three year, paddling documentary. 8,000 kilometers of sea
kayaking adventure along the coasts and deep into jungle rivers is the
vehicle to generate excitement and publicity for a much larger goal.
The once vast tracts of pristine marine and rainforest land shrink
yearly and the indigenous peoples that live subsistence lifestyles
among them face more pressure from the outside. What do we really know
about them and their cultures? What secrets can they share with us? Can
we preserve and develop harmoniously?

The self-produced website for the Central American Sea Kayak Expedition
2000 (www.caske2000.org) has received critical acclaim as one of the
best adventure-education resources on Central America. The non-profit
site is comprised of hundreds of easily accessed pages on diverse
subjects such as adventure travel writing, cultural studies, survival
skills, Latin American cuisine, adventure photography, traditional
medicine, marine and rainforest ecology and much more. Illustrated with
many photographs and detailed maps the website is engaging and
exciting.

For all the avid paddlers in your club we suggest you refer them to our
gSelected Storiesh page (www.caske2000.org/selection.htm). With a mix
of harrowing adventures, travelogues and lessons learned the hard way
your members will find much to interest them. From there they can
peruse the rest of the site. It is an excellent source of information
for travelers and paddlers looking for a Latin American getaway with
many links, reviews, maps and contact information.

From the Mosquito Coast to the Darien Gap the CASKE 2000 team will be
on-line from the most remote regions of Central America for another two
and a half years. Follow their progress and enjoy their documentaries.

In response to the question about the West River release I called the Agency of Natural resources and found out the following:
The release is tentativley scheduled for 9/25,26. The Army Corps od Engineers will decide what if any release will happen about 1 week before the scheduled release. Depending on what rainfall we get in the next couple of weeks, they may release both days, 1 day, 1 day at reduced levels, or not at all. I was given a phone # to call Jamaica State Park for up to the minute information during the days before the release. (802)874-4600.
