My husband and have kayaked a few times with keowees on a lake and have enjoyed it very much. We are using the kayaks we bought for the kids who are now grown. We are now interested in kayaking on some rivers. I know the kayaks are very basic but can anyone recommend a few rivers to paddle in the Rutland/Windsor/Addison county area that would be appropriate for our kayaks and our beginner ability. Thanks.

hello vpc! we are novice/intermediate kayakers searching day trips in or around our area. we see lots of boats shooting around on top of suv's and would like to know where everyone is going and how they chart their trips... aside from obvious trips on ottercreek or bethel to sharon on the white we are looking for exciting, runnable rivers all summer or interesting nature preserves worth exploring. two weeks ago we were doing the baker river from the top with friends and aside from the shallows and fallen trees it was so worth it for the little class 1 & 2's encountered; we even found a little island to camp on and caught trout for dinner! anyone thinking of this trip should definately put in below west rumney to avoid the shallows... anyhow if you read this and have tips for the area please send mail or post it to vpc! thanx...

Just called Little River State Park to check on the release schedule for the Waterbury Dam. They plan to lower the reservoir by 1 foot per day starting on *JULY 10* (next Monday). It sounds like the flow will be pretty continuous until the reservoir reaches winter level.

The VPC WW Clinic sign-up sheet states that the Saturday session will be at "Waterbury Reservoir State Park". Is this the park accessed from Rte 100, or was Little River State Park meant (accessed from Rte 2)? These are two different locations on the shore of Waterbury Reservoir. Little River State Park is close to the dam. (The 1998 clinic's flat water session was held there.)

I bought a used fiberglass canoe last summer, mostly to take my son fishing. It's in good shape, but is a canoe for flat water or lakes and ponds. If anyone has suggestions for good trips on Vermont rivers, please let me know. What River, where to put in and take out, etc. If the place is known for fishing, that would help, too.

Thanks a lot.

I'm a conservation officer from Pennsylvania and while on patrol this past weekend a gentleman asked if I wanted to buy a canoe. I entered his garage and found a "Linkanoe". It is an approximate 15' collapsible canoe. It comes apart in three pieces. He told me it was manufactured circa 1940 in New York. It is in excellent condition w/ an extra canvas. I would like to purchase it from him but I have no idea what it is worth or what I should offer. I want to be fair and not rip him off but by the same token I don't want to get robbed either. Can you help? Do you have any info on this canoe or have any suggestions where I can get more info? Thanks in advance.

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone was up for a Saturday a.m. run on the Little River out of the Waterbury Reservior. I was planning on meeting at the parking spot below the gorge at 10am. The water was pretty chilly on Monday night, and it was an decent novice-intermediate run (for this summer anyway). Any takers? Please drop an email by late Friday or call at 434-4910.

I checked the gauges tonight. As of 6:15 PM the Mad was up to 819 cfs (4.19 ft) and rising, versus *41* cfs last night. The New Haven was up to 221 cfs and rising at 7:15. The Winooski at Essex should be up to 1,800-2,000 cfs by morning. (Thunderstorms are predicted for the next two days.)

Hi - I'm thinking about going to Vermont this fall for a long weekend, and would like to do some canoeing. I am a novice canoer, so don't want anything adventurous - just a quiet canoe on a lake. Can anyone recommend nice, calm lakes with boathouses that rent canoes?

Thanks for any help you can give me.
