My family and I will be vacationing in Southern Vermont the last week of July. We have a daughter who is 13 and twin boys who are 10. Would appreciate any information you may have regarding canoe trips in the Brattleboro area. We are interested in a 1/2 day trip - max. I have been canoeing a few times; the rest of the family are definitely beginners - and don't classify me beyond intermediate beginner! Love your State - absolutely beautiful. Thanks in advance. We live in London, England. The family (five of us) is coming to stay near Ludlow / Okemo for three weeks in August 2001; we have access to a frontage at one of the local lakes (Nineveh). My daughter (age 15) and I (age 54), are novice kayakers - not white water, calm water. We're looking for somwhere nearby to purchase inexpensive second-hand kayaks for our stay.

Can anyone help?

Looking for info on the mosse river VT....
Early this season I spent a day fishing/scouting the moose river up in the NE Kingdom. From what I could see the river looked pretty mellow & great for a over-nighter canoe trip. Is anyone out there familiar with the river, what type of water will I encounter in Aug? Is it as mellow as it looks? Will there be enough water late in the season? I was planning on putting in up in Victory bog and pladdling down to St' J. Is this possible? Are there portages? if so how many/long? I know this is alot to ask and I would really appreciate any response.
Regards,
Dan

Ideally, I would like to paddle a III-IV river/creek that would entail a half day committment or less. Does anyone have any suggestions. Please e-mail me at jealden@yahoo.com. Thank you.

Paddlers,
There is an 1800 CFS release scheduled on the Rapid River in Maine on Sunday, August 12. The Rapid is a somewhat short but outstanding class 4 wilderness run. Because it is a bit of a drive to get there, going on Saturday and camping out would be the best option. If anyone is interested in going, give me a call at 527-8328. (My e-mail is not working at the moment).
Thanks.

I got this message and thought I should pass on.
Hi. I am writing to let the VPC know about the Lake Champlain Challenge, sponsored by the Vermont Outrigger Canoe Club
(VOCC). In its fourth consecutive year, the Lake Champlain Challenge is a distance race open to all self-propelled
sea-worthy craft, including sea kayaks, racing kayaks, sit-on-tops, rowing shells, war canoes, and 6-person outrigger canoes.
Races start and finish at North Beach City park. Safety is provided. For more information and registration, visit the race web
site at http://www.madriver.com/users/treeskier/lcc/ or http://www.paddlemachine.com/ .

The distance race is on August 18, and has both long (15 mile) and short (7.5 mile) courses. Participants can choose which
course they want to do. The long course is from North Beach, around a buoy just north of Sunset Island, and back. The short
course is from North Beach, around a buoy off the Winooski River mouth, and back. T-shirts and prizes are available.

Also, there is a sprint event (1000 meters) is on August 19 at North Beach. Sprints are in 6-person outrigger canoes - the
outrigger and steersperson are provided by the VOCC. Youth, Adult, and Corporate classes are available.

Would you please consider adding the Lake Champlain Challenge to the trip calendar, and let the membership know about the
event?

Thanks,

Hi folks,
Next Saturday I'm doing the fifth annual swim across Lake Champlain --
check out http://www.gbymca.org/aquatics/shore_to_shore_swim.html.
I'd love to hit you up for fund-raising, as it is a worthy cause, but
mostly I need HELP!

I need someone who can be my support boat (kayaks mostly, though some
folks last year had cabin cruisers). Would you, or do you know
anyone, who might like to spend a few hours (about 4 for the 8 mile
crossing) on the high seas with me? We get transported over from the
Burlington Ferry dock, and swim back to Burlington, get lotsa bagels
and munchies and good jock fellowship. And I'll buy dinner for 2 as
my "thank you!"

Please get in touch if you can help out or know anyone I might
contact; call me at 223-7074, or email me at bspatial@together.net.

THANX much.
