Hi VPC Members,

I would like to invite you to visit and register at a new website, Whitewater! It is a well organized discussion board featuring sections on state by state trip planning, river advocacy, clinic announcements, event announcements, gear swap, lost and found, real time stream levels and computer assistance. I am particularily excited about our members only uploadable photo and movie gallery! Whitewater! is similar in purpose to Boater Talk and AW (two invaluable paddler resources) though a bit different in form.

My goal in creating Whitewater! was to offer a non-commercial, nation wide forum to discuss isseus relevant to our sport. It's seems that often times the boating crowd is segmented into region or cliques. It is my hope that Whitewater! will generate a nation wide community atmosphere which inspires a higher degree of interaction and collaboration between clubs and individuals from state to state.

If you are a member of a club and would like a link to your website or contact info permanently posted, please let me know (Many are already in the Plans section). I do not entertain notions of competition, as our communities' goals will come to fruition only through a united front. I am more than willing to add a link to any and all websites, boards, organizations and political action commities that benefit the whitewater community....free of charge.

Whitewater is payed for and maintained entirely by myself. If you like what you see, tell your paddling buds and those who are allies in our efforts to preserve and restore whitewater resources. If your club or group of paddling friends do not have a discussion board or even if you do I welcome and encourage you to use Whitewater! as your own. If you have some suggestions on how I might more effectively serve the community, please offer them. I have just opened this site so our membership is slim, right around 100....I am in need of moderators so if you are interested in helping out please speak up! Ideally I would like to have an individual from each respective state in the Plans section, moderate. This board relys upon your input and participation to be of value. So please drop in and say something! I look forward to seeing you.

http://www.rapidcreek.net is the place!

Peace and Inner Harmony,

Andrew

Does anyone know the best way to get to the Penobscott from Burlington? Mapquest insists it's fastest to head over to 95 and then up to Baxter, but I've heard there may be sneak route through Canada. Does anyone have experience driving out there? Thanks....

Hi. Where is a good place to find a deal
on a decent sit on top kayak? Girlfriend is
looking to join the sport and has decided
that a sit on top is what she wants. Specifically for use on smooth local lakes
and for leisurely paced paddling (at least
until she gets the taste for death and starts to whitewater, etc). Thanks for your
help, I am not a kayaker and could use a hand. Also, any opinions on paddles are
appreciated.

Hi Everybody,
As part of my responsibilities as rep of the MVP for the IPC, I have been checking out what the Army Corp of Engineers has been planning to do with the Coolidge Road take out in Bristol, NH on the Pemigewassett river. They have so far added a port-o-let in the parking area below the Pemi hole and just last week, added picnic tables. They are also thinking of putting in some gravel in this spot. The person I spoke with is in charge of this area and was wondering what we would all like to see in recreational improvements in this area. They have been considering putting in a parking area across from the steps they put in some time ago. If anyone has some imput on this subject, please feel free to voice your ideas as the Army Corp of Engineers wants to know. I will be posting this question at the MVP Pig Roast for everyone to give their ideas on this. I think it is a great opportunity for us to be heard and maybe even get what we want.

For Chace Mill paddlers --
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The pool level above the Winooski One dam is down for 10 days (starting 9/10) while they replace the main dam face (the rubber membrane). This makes for some interesting features between the two mills. For example, the Horseshoe falls is 9-10 feet high instead of 4 feet.
Yesterday's rain may also bring the river up a bit (I hope!??).
E-mail me or call me at 264-3141 if you aren't familiar with the spot and would like to check it out.
------------------
[Did anybody else paddle on Lake Champlain yesterday? I was down at Oakledge Park. The sets coming in there included an occasional 7-8 foot wave, with some 6-9 foot standing waves forming off the cliffs near Cove Beach. The wind was gusting over 40 mph.]
Hello Everyone
KAYAK BEGINNER LOOKING FOR EXPERENCED BOATING PARTNER TO GO PADDELING.
I just went white river kayaking for the first time last weekend (sept.13) in Maine with friends, and I fell in love.
I am a beginner looking for an experenced kayaker to go boating with in Vermont. I do know the wet exit, but still have not got the hip snap down for the roll over yet, plus still need to learn how to read currents.
Anyone interested please contact me.
West River Weekend Info:
Will run the lower West (class II) Saturday 9/21. Another VPC group will be riding the shuttle to run the upper West (class III). We're all meeting at 9 am in Jamaica VT at Jamaica State Park, at the main Salmon Hole parking area. Look for my canoe -- a mango colored Mad River Outrage with my name written inside the gunwale. As far as I know the dam will be releasing from 10 am - 2 pm each day. These trips are NOT official VPC trips, and as such are neither insured nor sanctioned by the VPC or ACA.
Will camp Sat. night at Winhall Brook Campground off Rt. 100 north of Bondville. Sites should still be available. Call 877-444-6777 or logon to http://reserveamerica.com/. We have site N5. Not sure whether I want to paddle Sun. or maybe go climb Killington or Mt. Snow. May depend on the weather. A group including VPC pres. Fritz Senftleber will meet to paddle Sun. 9/22 at 9:30 am (same location).
Will see you there, I'm sure!
