Charlie, given your height and my past experience I'd say a Medium is too small. My current Kokatat is actually an XL. I have found that I appreciate the freedom of movement it gives me. A key consideration is the ease of getting the neck gasket up and over your head.
A snug fit is better for swimming, but I don't expect you'll be doing much of that!
